Last day of August

I cannot believe it is already the end of August, and what an end! It was a beautiful day today. The river bank was alive when I took my run, lots of people out on the trails running, walking, biking, skateboarding and roller blading. I ran 6 miles this afternoon (683.5 miles). I had some leg pain so I took breaks to take photographs and ran at a slower pace. The late afternoon lighting this time of year is so soft and beautiful making it a perfect afternoon for running!

Back on the trail

I am finally back running after almost a week break. My leg felt a great deal better because I took the needed time off to let it heal. I ran 7 miles this AM (677.5 miles) along the river, including along the new open walkway linking downtown to Riversdale. It is really nice and I enjoyed having a new path to run. The pictures above are of my run. Looking back over the year the river bank has changed significantly. There are a number of sites where the city is working on the riverbank upgrading pipes and other infrastructure. The group pictures are of our research team in Prince Albert. We are a couple months away from submitting our research grant for the Firefighter Mentorship Program Intervention Grant. It is a wonderful team of people and each time we meet I know why I love the work that I do. This is something I need right now as I work away at my tenure application, the ultimate evaluation!

Running into a friend from the past

I ran 5 miles this evening (670.5 miles). My right leg felt a bit better than yesterday but I still had quite a bit of pain. At the beginning of my run I ran into Gail Hendry, a friend of mine from many years ago. Gail and I worked together at SaskPower in the 1980s. It was wonderful running into her and catching up and I hope to have a chance to run with Gail and her running group in the next couple weeks. They run Saturday mornings along the river.
